Filtration is the process in which solids are separated from liquids or gases using something which the solids cannot pass through but everything else can. A common example would be when making a cup of tea. A teabag is made of a material that allows water to pass through but does not let the solid tea leaves escape. The solid tea leaves are filtered out using the bag but the tea flavours which dissolve in the hot water are able to pass through.
