Water

faucet-1684902_1920Water is vital for life, and yet nearly 1 in 10 people lack access to safe water, which equates to twice the population of the United States. Over 70% of the earth’s surface is covered with water. However, much of it needs treatment using chemical technologies before it is drinkable.

How does Chemistry research interact with the global challenge of water?

The global challenge of access to safe water is very relevant to Chemistry. The chemical sciences are involved in developing new methods for water treatment, new materials for purification membranes and pipework, as well as analytical techniques to rapidly test water quality.

Take a look at the research by Dr Zoe Schnepp relating to water treatment in our experiment section.
