Environment

climate-change-2085527_1280Our environment is a complex system, including the air that we breathe, the land that we live on, the water that we drink and the climate around us. Humans have made significant developments in energy, agriculture, and healthcare, but some of these improvements to our lives have resulted in changes to our environment.

Chemists develop tools and techniques to measure air and water pollution, in order to improve our understanding of environmental issues and address new problems, including the effects of exposure to new chemicals.

Take a look at the research by Dr Zoe Schnepp, relating to sustainable materials for water purification, and work by Dr Joe Hriljac on nuclear waste remediation in our GCSE experiments section.
